What a year it has been for PLS!
Back in June, I took our advanced adult Spanish class to Barcelona for the weekend and we had an amazing time.
We were staying in the IBIS hotel on Glories 22, which had clean, quiet rooms with very comfortable beds. The first evening we sampled some traditional cuisine in a beautiful cavernous bar/restaurant near the hotel (simply turn right as you leave the hotel and keep going until you hit Raco de la Villa, the food was beautiful and the staff were very friendly.
Following morning, we jumped on the hop on and hop off bus and visited many sites along the green route, Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, Passeig de Gracia, Las Ramblas etc. We made sure we kept well hydrated as the sun was cracking the flags, but that didn’t stop us walking here, there and everywhere (which was totally my fault, I love strolling through the streets and seeing new and interesting places but sometimes forget just how big Barcelona is).
In the evening we watched ‘fuente mágica’ an absolute treat for those in the group that hadn’t seen it and still a spectacle for those of us that had and sampled some more authentic Catalan/Hispanic cuisine after the show, cuttlefish paella (black rice).
Our last day, we visited the Arc de Triomf and the Ciutadella park. We strolled through the streets of the gothic quarter, passing the cathedral and market places and finding a wonderful Pinxos bar for lunch, ending with the beach in the afternoon.
Overall, the whole group loved the holiday and despite being walked off their feet they said they had never seen so much of Barcelona in so little time. For me, Barcelona is a magical, vibrant city and I was so happy that I was the one to take the group there. Hopefully there will be more trips in the future.
