I have lost count of how many times someone has wished me Happy New Year in the last couple of weeks. Ok, I spend a lot of my days in schools and for them it is the beginning of a new academic year so this does make sense. However it is not just schools that seem to have embraced the “New Year” vibe. In the last month we have seen an increase in the number of adults enquiring about our evening classes. It seems lots of people have come back from holidays and the happy lack of routine that the summer brings and decided it’s time for a new challenge and a new hobby.
We have started a new Beginners French class at Wallasey Library which runs on a Thursday evening and has attracted complete beginners and those who want to brush up on the basics. We have also started a new Beginners Spanish course on a Tuesday evening in Heswall which has seen some welcome familiar faces and some new additions. We continue with the Intermediate classes in French and Spanish as well and pleasingly every single one has welcomed a new member for this “new year”.
It would seem it’s not just schools with the “new year” bug. Hopefully our new language learners will enjoy the classes and find their language skills go from strength to strength. More importantly let’s hope it doesn’t go the way of most of my new years resolutions!
