Last week we held our first of two Spanish Summer Clubs this schools holidays. Children from our after-school and evening clubs attended for two days at Calday Grange Grammar School. Our theme was “Un viaje por Espana” (a trip round Spain) and the children took part in a range of activities to plan the trip and make the imaginary journey to several Spanish cities.

We began by looking at a map of Spain and deciding where to go , we then made our plane tickets and passports. We also practised everything we had been learning about clothes this term and made suitcases with everything we might need. For the actual journey, we boarded the plane, visited the tourist office and went shopping in the market. We also visited Barcelona where we made our own mosaic pictures in the style of Gaudi. In Seville we bought the ingredients for Sangria from the market and followed a Spanish recipe to make our own Sangria (alcohol free of course). Finally we visited the north of Spain and learnt about the Camino de Santiago. We had our own hunt for yellow arrows and shells and practised giving directions. The children and the teachers had a great time and learnt a lot about Spain as well as practising our Spanish!

The second Spanish Summer Club will take place from Tuesday 30th August to Friday 2nd August. Places are still available for all of these days. The Club takes place at Calday Grange Grammar School from 10am till 3pm (bring a packed lunch). If you would like to book a place please contact Jenny or return the form below to our office address (see Contact Us page).
